Harassment

R. v. E.C.:

The accused, E.C. was charged with harassment by repeated communication. The accused lost all their money while gambling with her husband, and insisted on having him pay them back. Later on, the accused turned herself in where she was placed under arrest, and held for a bail hearing. The accused was 6 months pregnant at the time of the arrest. Upon her arrest, she was removed from the family home and prohibited from communicating with her husband. Such an issue was the cause of great stress and concern given that she was about to deliver their child in three months. Counsel Jonathan Pyzer represented the accused and was able to vary the terms of bail condition within a couple of days of her release to be able to have contact with her husband. Jonathan Pyzer was also successful in having all charges against her withdrawn before trial with upfront counseling for anxiety.

R. v. A.K.:

The accused, A.K. was charged with harassment by threatening conduct to another person and uttering threats/death or bodily harm. The accused threatened to shoot himself and his daughter if his wife insisted on divorce. The accused was put under arrest and held for a show cause. No injuries or assaults were reported. Jonathan Pyzer represented the accused and was successfully able to negotiate a resolution where all the charges were withdrawn at the request of the crown attorney’s office. He was able to achieve charges withdrawal with no admission of guilt or a criminal record. Moreover, the accused was not even required to sign a peace bond.
